Fahrenheit to Celsius for baking
Oven temperature is the second most common baking conversion. American recipes use Fahrenheit; most of the world uses Celsius. This guide gives you the exact formula, a table of common baking temperatures, and notes on fan ovens.

Start calculating: To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, use Celsius = (Fahrenheit − 32) × 5 / 9. So 350°F = (350 − 32) × 5 / 9 ≈ 177°C.
Worked examples
350°F ≈ 177°C. 375°F ≈ 191°C. 400°F ≈ 204°C. 425°F ≈ 218°C. 450°F ≈ 232°C. For Celsius to Fahrenheit, use Fahrenheit = Celsius × 9 / 5 + 32, so 180°C = 180 × 9 / 5 + 32 = 356°F.
Common mistakes
Rounding too early loses accuracy — keep the exact formula until the final step. Forgetting the −32 in the Fahrenheit-to-Celsius formula is the most common error. Another mistake is treating fan oven adjustments as exact: the −20°C guideline is a starting point, and real ovens vary.
